A TWENTY YEAR OLD NGO ESTABLISHED IN THE MEMORY OF DR. NINA DOSHI FOR REHABILITATION OF FRIENDS WITH SPINAL CORD INJURY IN INDIA

There are over 1.5 million friends with spinal cord injury in India, making it the capital for this disability in the world. Major causes are Road Traffic Accidents, Falls, Sports, Violence including Terror Attacks and Cancer or TB of the Spine. Spinal cord injury is a permanent disability transforming a person’s life and rehabilitation is the key to facing life with dignity. WHO (World Health Organisation) has declared Spine Injury as the most devastating disability in the world. Our Foundation has been encouraging friends enabling them to excel in their respective fields. The Trust’s Registration No. is E-23804 (Mumbai) and we are registered with the Charities Commissioner’s Office, Government of Maharashtra, INDIA. Donations are exempt under Sec 80G of the Income Tax Act and our Pan No. is AAATN9123H.

Dr (Ms) Ketna L Mehta, PhD is Founder Trustee & Editor Nina Foundation, An NGO for rehabilitating friends with spinal cord injury. Their tag line is Rehabilitate. Relive. Rejoice. Through the NGO she has counselled and Rehabilitated 1000s of young friends who due to an accident, fall or disease of the spine, lose all movement and sensation in their limbs. She had a paraglide accident and has spinal cord injury at D12 since 12 Feb 1995.

She is Editor, Author, Professor, Management trainer and inspirational speaker. She is a University topper from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, a certified Fellow of Management Consulting and a PhD in healthcare rehabilitation management. She has authored a book in 2005 post her paragliding accident ‘Nano Thoughts on Management’.

She was a Regional Consultant for WHO’s a maiden research study on spinal cord injury; Guest Editor for the magazine Success & Ability on Spinal cord injury; Invited as a speaker by The Times of India’s first LitFest on ‘Disability is a state of Mind’ and has served as a task force member for GOI’s education and vocational education initiatives. She is the recipient of some significant awards like Shell Helen Keller Award, 2002, NASEOH award 2005, Moneylife women Achievers award 2012 and others.
