The Ganga Foundation

The Ganga Foundation (TGF) was the brainchild of late S Vaidyanathan (Vaidy) with his friends, Elango Thambiah and Nath Balakrishnan. The Ganga Trust (earlier name) was conceptualised in the year 2009 . Vaidy sustained a spinal cord injury (SCI) due to a fall in the year 1990, while he was a student at IIM, Bangalore. Over the past few years, TGF, under Vaidy’s leadership, has impacted lives of several thousands of persons with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Vaidy unfortunately succumbed to COVID-19 in May 2021; post his passing, Elango and Nath have stepped in to continue the work of the Foundation and take forward Vaidy’s dream of helping persons with SCI lead healthy and productive lives

The vision of TGF is to ‘Enhance the quality of life for persons with SCI in India’. The mission is to ‘help the persons with SCI to live life to the fullest potential.’

Central to this vision was providing access to quality and timely rehabilitation to persons with SCI and ensuring they live life to their fullest potential.

Over the past 11 years, TGF has touched many lives, the Peer Trainer program conceptualised by Vaidy has been instrumental in bringing the SCI persons to learn through experience sharing. The Right Wheelchair program has helped more than 1000 people with world class wheelchairs. TGF has also been associated with The Kotak Wheelchair Marathon, India’s first marathon organised by persons with disability for all to participate.

Our vision is to take forward Vaidy’s dream of helping persons with SCI lead healthy and productive lives. We would like to extend to the area of livelihood and education for the persons with SCI and their family to ensure that they become part of the mainstream of the society.
