Voluntary Medicare Society

Voluntary Medicare Society is a medico-social voluntary organization dedicated to provide quality rehabilitation services to people having physical, intellectual, hearing, speech and visual disabilities with special focus on children and women with disabilities. Besides providing rehabilitation service, VMS also promotes and protects rights of people with disabilities.

Educate and provide care and support to persons with physical disabilities.

The organization was founded in 1970, by Dr. Mir Mohammad Maqbool (Retired. Professor & head of E.N.T Dept., Government Medical College Srinagar).

Services available at VMS: VMS provides both IPD, OPD& community based rehabilitation services to people with disabilities, the services provided are as under;

  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy.
  • Developmental Therapy.
  • Peer counselling.
  • Assistive Technology (Wheelchair, Crutches, Sticks, Hearing aids, Standing frames, corner chairs etc.).
  • Prosthetics and orthotics (providing customized lower limb prosthesis & all types of orthotic appliances).
  • Speech and audiology with facilities like ,Audiometry (PTA), BERA and impedance etc.
  • Mobility and Braille training for people with visual impairment, 3 months adjustment course.
  • Special education for children with mental retardation and inclusive education up to 8th Standard.
  • Fitness Centre.
  • Rehabilitation services at 4 sub centers in valley besides kargil and leh .
